Can vehicles be dropped off out of hours?

Yes they can, but the hirer remains legally responsible for the vehicle until it has been checked in by our staff.

Can hirers take your vehicles abroad?

Yes, but please call to discuss as requirements vary by country. Extra charges may apply where certain items are required to drive in a particular country.

Is your day rate for 24 hours?

Yes. If you hire out at 9.00am today then the vehicle would be due back by 9.00am tomorrow.

What time can I collect and return a hire vehicle?

Vehicles must be collected during office hours (Mon-Fri 8.30-4.30, Sat 8.30-12.30) but may be returned at any time using our electronic gate system.

Do I need to provide my driving licence?

We will require your licence photo card and will need to check your licence online for endorsements.

What paperwork do I need to bring with me?

Full driving licence (photocard) also a second form of ID (passport, utility bill). We will also require the DVLA “check code” generated here: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence  Providing this code will speed up the vehicle check out time. If you are unable to generate this code, don’t worry, we can carry out the check when you arrive to collect the vehicle.

Is there an age limit?

Drivers must be 21 – 75 years of age and Minibus drivers a maximum age of 70 and hold a D1 entitlement on their licence (which usually means they passed their driving test before 1997 or they have specifically taken and passed the D1 test).

How long must I have been driving to be able to hire a vehicle?

Drivers aged 21-24  must have held a full driving licence for a minimum of 2 years. Drivers aged 25-75  must have held a full driving licence for at least 12 months.

What do the prices include?

The price quoted is inclusive of VAT, insurance cover, breakdown cover and 200 miles per day. Additional miles are charged at £0.15 per mile. There is an optional excess waiver fee detailed below.

What is the excess waiver fee for?

Camel Hire insurance has a £750 excess for cars and vans. This is the hirer’s liability charge if a driver has an accident. The £7 per day excess waiver fee  is an optional charge to lower the liability to £200.

For minibuses, the excess is £1,000 with a £10 per day option to reduce the liability to £250.

Can I hire a vehicle with endorsements on my driving licence?

Details of endorsements must always be given. Depending on the seriousness of the endorsement and the number of endorsements, you may be able to hire a vehicle . Contact our office by phone or email with details to be sure. Remember, if the full details are not given, this may result in you not being insured.

How many drivers can I have?

The initial price per vehicle covers one driver. Any additional drivers may be added onto the insurance at an extra price of £5 per driver for the total hire period.

Can I hire a vehicle one way?

No, unfortunately all vehicles must be returned to the collection point.

What about pets?

Pets are allowed in our vehicles but we ask that covers are used to protect seats and carpets as any additional cleaning or repairs will be charged for.

What are the dimensions/weight limit of your vehicles?

We can provide details of all our vehicle dimensions and loading capacities if you contact us in the booking office. We can also advise which vehicle would best suit your needs.

Do you require a deposit?

No. We do not take a deposit but we will “ring fence” the agreed excess amount on your debit/credit card; payment will not be taken provided the vehicle is checked back in without damage. Payments by credit card will incur a charge of 3% of the transaction.

What is your fuel policy?

When your vehicle is collected from us it will be full of fuel. We ask that you return it full. If not full, we will charge £10 plus the cost of the fuel to fill the tank.

What optional extras are available?

We can provide child seats, loading straps and a sack trolley. Contact the office to check availability and prices.
